ECS Design Standards

  • Streetside always preferred when installing fiber
  • MUST be highest communication (but not always the case like if its not an SCE owned pole)
  • MUST ALWAYS BE ON 5’ ARM, unless larger is necessary (alley arm/ F arm)
  • Arms must alternate between sides of the pole.
    • North then south, or east then west
    • double x arm on the beginning and end of line
  • 25’ is the typical preferred height when possible
    • Try not to have dramatic differences in height from pole to pole (e.g >3’ is too much)
  • Fiber must stay consistently on the same side of the pole
    • Example: If the pole line is on the WESTSIDE of the street and the fiber is designed to be streetside going (N) & (S), and the fiber turns (W), the fiber must stay consistent.
    • If the pole line is on the SOUTHSIDE of the street than you will still be streetside.
  • If the pole line is on the NORTHSIDE of the street than the fiber will then be fieldside.
